In lieu of tonight’s celebration of the best in film (and the red carpet), I thought I’d kick things off with Oscar-nominated actress Lupita Nyong’o. As I wrote before, I’ve been obsessing over the newcomer ever since she graced the red carpet for film premieres. Currently on a winner’s streak in both awards and fashion, Lupita is my latest star style crush. Not one to shy away from bright colors and prints as well as daring silhouettes and bold shades of makeup, Lupita is every bit as fearless on the style circuit as she is with her on-screen portrayal of Patsey in 12 Years a Slave.  Her fresh and nearly flawless ebony skin serve as the perfect backdrop for the latest designer duds. I love that she keeps her accessories to a minimum and allows the garment to shine on its own, albeit with a bold lip and eyeshadow here and there. From classic sheaths to sophisticated gowns, Lupita has been spot-on this past year. Here are a few of my favorite looks:

Jessica-Stam-MI’m always thrilled when high-end designers partner with affordable retailers. Target has already collaborated with Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Phillip Lim, Zac Posen, Missoni, Rodarte, Alexander McQueen, Thakoon and Jean Paul Gaultier to deliver capsule collections to its consumers at reasonable prices. And here is one partnership I’m equally excited about. Famed London-design house Peter Pilotto, spearheaded by designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vosbrand, join the esteemed company of these designers, creating a special line exclusively for Target.

Known for their bright colors, structured yet bold silhouettes and abstract, digital prints, the signature style I’ve come to love is a staple throughout the collection. With a nod to surfing and swimming, the line has everything from clothing and accessories to swimwear. Crop tops, sweatshirts, skirts, blazers, dresses, slip-on sneakers and sunglasses complete the line. And the price is right too, with most items ranging from $16.99 to $79.99. (more…)
