I have so many favorites this year from the red carpet of the Academy Awards. Let’s get started on what I loved. And let’s just assume if some gowns didn’t make this post, then they were either too safe or not my favorites. This year’s best-dressed lists should include at least one of these ladies in the top 10.

Topping my best-dressed list of the night is Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o. The 12 Years A Slave actress wore a beautiful light blue silk Prada gown with pleats along with Prada platform sandals and a Prada raso clutch. She completed the look with Fred Leighton jewels. From her hair and makeup to her dance-a-long with Pharrell Williams during his “Happy” performance, Lupita was the clear winner of the night.

There wasn’t much color on the carpet, but these rich hues in navy blue and amethyst were standouts. Gravity star Sandra Bullock looked amazing in this navy Alexander McQueen gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. The sweetheart neckline and easy draping across the bodice up the style ante. Amy Adams got it right in this custom navy Gucci Premiere gown and Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Collection jewelry. It fitted the American Hustle actress like a glove, and I love the tuxedo-inspired details and train. Scandal star Kerry Washington showed off her baby bump in a custom Jason Wu gown in amethyst and Jennifer Meyer jewelry. But she still kept it sexy and sophisticated with a daring side slit and gold tie bar detail at the bodice. Her makeup and hair just added to her glow.

Pastels and softer, subtle shades were prominent on the red carpet. These are my favorites in blush and pink. Camila Alves nailed it in a long-sleeved Gabriela Cadena gown, Lorraine Schwartz earrings and a matching clutch. Penelope Cruz looked amazing in a draped, Grecian-inspired Giambattista Valli Couture one-shoulder gown and Chopard diamond earrings. I love the chiffon cape-like detail and black bow accented at the waist along with her black clutch and topknot. Jada Pinkett-Smith wowed in a pink Atelier Versace gown. The halter neckline, draping, slit and dramatic train were just the right elements for this incredibly beautiful and sleek gown.

It wouldn’t be a formal occasion without a few starlets wearing black. And these were my favorite looks of the night in the dark color. Olivia Wilde showed off her burgeoning bump in a pre-fall 2014 Valentino gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. You can’t see it here, but the front is all business and the back is all play. I love the covered-up aspect of it in the front with the bow detail at the back of the neck, and I think the dress benefits from no sleeves. A sexy open back completed the mock-turtleneck gown. Charlize Theron can do no wrong in my eyes when it comes to fashion. She wore a tiered black Dior Couture gown with Harry Winston jewels. I kind of secretly like the nude straps. A surprise for me was Anna Kendrick. It’s not that she makes horrible style choices, but I was expecting for her to play it a bit safe. Well, she didn’t in this J. Mendel fall 2014 gown. I’m so in love with this dress from the floral embellishments on her bare midriff to the sheer effect and asymmetrical lines. It was very edgy, and I think the dark wine and red accessories complemented the gown perfectly.

I can’t forget about my guys. And since most donned the typical black tuxedo, I found these three to be standouts on the carpet. The devil’s in the details. Okay, I have a MAJOR crush on Fruitvale Station star Michael B. Jordan. It’s not hard to see why. The actor looked quite dapper in a Givenchy tuxedo with a collar from the Gentlemen Collection of Dave Thomas. He completed the tailored look with a Piaget watch and Forevermark diamond earrings. Loved it from head to toe, literally! I wasn’t the biggest fan of Pharrell Williams‘ short Bermuda tuxedo by Lanvin, but it was bold. And he gets style points for trying something different, while sticking to his own aesthetic. Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt was debonaire in his tuxedo. I loved the shine and matte-finish of the tuxedo and the red pingback on his lapel.

Here are another batch of my favorites in black. The Bling Ring actress Emma Watson wore a pewter metallic fall 2014 Vera Wang gown and Chanel fine jewelry ring. I loved how sporty yet formal the look was with the ribbed and crew neck bodice paired with a more dramatic skirt. Anne Hathaway was gorgeous in a black silk crepe column Gucci gown with crystal embellishments on the bust and waist. I love the halter neckline and slim fit. She completed the look with Gucci shoes and a black plexiglass clutch. I thought Glenn Close looked really beautiful in this mermaid-esque gown with matching jacket. I love the texture of the dress and how it fits her body.

Again, pastel shades ruled the red carpet. Kristen Bell wore a strapless, blush-colored Roberto Cavalli gown with elegant beading details and a Ferragamo box clutch. Host Lara Spencer wore a white Kaufmanfranco column gown with a keyhole cutout and rows of white stones and beading detail. Witches of East End actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum‘s nude Reem Acra gown was gorgeous with all its textural details in the skirt. I loved the sheer tulle and ruffles on the skirt as well as the beading and cut of the bodice. She completed the look with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Kelly Osbourne wore a white Badgley Mischka gown with a metallic lace capelet from the designer’s spring 2014 collection. The E! Host and fashion commentator always manages to inject her vintage inspirations into edgy and modern pieces.  Straying away from her signature black, Angelina Jolie sparkled in Elie Saab couture. The Maleficent actress embraced the metallic and sheer trends, while pairing the beaded gown with Ferragamo shoes.  I’m a huge fan of the flapper era and fashion from the 1920s so it’s no surprise that I loved Jennifer Garner‘s Oscar de la Renta gown. The silver tiered gown was subtle and sophisticated, and she completed the look with Brian Atwood shoes and Oscar de la Renta’s “Goa” clutch.

You can always count on Cate Blanchett to get it right on the carpet, and I loved her soft gold cap-sleeve Armani Prive gown. The flared tulle skirt and embroidery were really whimsical and pretty. She completed the look with Swarovski crystal baguettes and Chopard jewelry. Actress Kate Hudson managed to bring old Hollywood glamour to the carpet without looking too dated. She was effortlessly beautiful in a white/silver woven spring 2014 Atelier Versace gown. The beading, plunging neckline and detailing at the waist are perfect. But the true standout details here are the shoulder pads and cape-like adornment. Naomi Watts wore a custom Calvin Klein Collection gown embellished with beading from head to toe. While simple in shape, the cap sleeves and Bvlgari diamond collar necklace stole the show.

Red-carpet favorite and America’s sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence looked regal in a red strapless Christian Dior Couture peplum gown. While the starlet took a tumble on the red carpet, she still looked fabulous doing so in black Brian Atwood sandals. Viola Davis presented at last night’s Oscars in a jeweled-tone Escada gown, which she said was her go-to color for the red carpet. I like the structured bodice on the emerald gown and the cylindrical Jimmy Choo “Cosma” clutch. Extra TV host and actress Maria Menounos looked gorgeous in Johanna Johnson paired with an Ashlyn’d clutch. It was simple, but the crystal accents on the waist and shoulders and the beading detail allowed it to standout. You can’t see it here, but the low back was quite sexy.

Portia de Rossi looked stunning in an ivory Naeem Khan pre-fall 2014 gown with honeycomb detailing. I love the nude underlay and the details on the bodice and waistband. Finally, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen brought some fun to the carpet with this modern yet sophisticated Monique Lhullier fall 2014 gown. I love the pockets and abstract print. She completed the look with a Jimmy Choo clutch and shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Do you agree with my picks for best-dressed? Who was your favorite on the red carpet?
