Archive for January, 2014

Here are the items I’m currently obsessing over and will be adding to my collection soon:

My favorite go-to accessories are chunky earrings and rings, but the ear cuff craze has me desperately wanting to try a pair for spring in silver or gold. Ear cuffs can be an edgy, stylish alternative to most earrings because they don’t require you to have pierced ears or to wear those horrid clip-ons. For formal outfits, you can wear sparkly or crystal designs or mix it up with metal styles for more casual looks. Claire’s and other popular fashion retailers like rue21 and Forever 21 have affordable and trendy options. Beyonce and Jay Z open 2014 Grammys

Just as I predicted in my must-see TV post, 17-time Grammy winner Beyonce opened last night’s show with hip hop mogul Jay Z, singing their hit “Drunk in Love” from Beyonce’s fifth self-entitled studio album. It was quite a steamy duet between the husband and wife power couple, as Beyonce lit up the stage with just a chair and “flashing lights.” Camera action caught Taylor Swift and Sir Paul McCartney jamming along with the crowd as they chanted the popular line from the song–“surfboard.” (more…)

My favorite looks of the week are from three ladies in the entertainment industry who each have their own distinct style, ranging from retro to bold prints to rocker chic.

DJ and singer-songwriter Solange Knowles was a bit ANTsy when she attended the Spotify pre-Grammy party on Thurday, January 23. I’m bugging out over this turtleneck crop top and skirt duo in black and white. In truth, I can’t tell if they’re cockroaches or ants sprinkled throughout, but I’ve never seen insects look this good!

Hermes1The vast mixed-use development of Buckhead Atlanta is well underway after false starts and many delays. The six-block, 8-acre project at Peachtree and East Paces Ferry roads taken over by Oliver McMillan has been redesigned and gone through a series of name changes (formerly The Streets of Buckhead) to attract Atlanta’s diverse residents. Slated to open this summer, there will be new office spaces, retail shops and residential developments that will transform the area into a walkable, urban destination for residents and companies.

“What we’ve done is gone out for best-in-class restaurateurs around the country,” said Oliver McMillan’s Hunter Richardson, who manages Buckhead Atlanta. “We are excited about the diversity of restaurants that we are attracting…what we love about this is within a five-minute walk, you’ll find 10 restaurants.” (more…)

As a young girl growing up poring over fashion magazines and watching the Style Network for the latest runway collections, I was always confused and a bit frustrated when I didn’t see girls that looked like me in the fashion wells of those glossy magazines or in fashion shows. I love fashion and there are certainly other brown girls and ethnicities that are attracted to it too, but why aren’t we targeted in magazine advertorials or for ad campaigns? Why aren’t more of us cast for fashion shows? (more…)

Following the surprise release of her successful fifth album, “Beyonce,” it’s only fitting I dedicate the first post on my favorite look of the week to Queen Bey. She’s shown amazing style and flair for the past few weeks on her Tumblr. Here are a few of my favorite looks and where you can find some of the items.

While the rest of the world was dealing with cooler temperatures, Beyonce was heating things up in Miami, sporting everything from cropped tees and cutoffs to bustiers and pencil skirts.

It’s that time of year again—awards season. And once the best in music are crowned on Sunday, January 26 at the Grammy Awards, film fanatics will be tuned in to see if their favorite movies take home the coveted gold trophy. I generally enjoy the Oscars because sometimes seeing those brief clips of a film or the hype surrounding it makes me want to go watch if I haven’t already. While the show can be a drag after the first hour or so, I’m really looking forward to this year because of the following four things:

1.  Costume design nominations all revisit the past.
